appears to be very close and similar to the ones saved for Saturday and Sunday s races So it was the perfect opportunity to set up its technical skills and strategy before the big events This terrain was typical from the North of France was mostly flat and easy to run with only a few elements to read Trust me when I said that contrarily to what it seems it was not that easy This terrain required to be very strong and accurate with your compass because even if the visibility is very high you may quickly drift from you azimuth and go over the control Saturday 10th May National Champ of Middle distance Forest of Mormal Locquignol Here started the serious things and the rain too The finish arena was slowly but constantly filling up of water and mud appeared everywhere in the parking around the finish line on the finish corridor in my shoes But this was not enough to discourage the almost 2000 runners who came for the week end Specially because the organizers where ready big screen live results speakers on fire but also homemade French fries artisanal beers and the famous maroille just imagine the smelliest french cheese possible but tasty when cooked The perfect cocktail for a nice O week end As expected the terrain was very fast with a high visibility And as announced the compass was the highest priority in forest since a short lack of accuracy in your azimuth may quickly cause problem and big loss of time Moreover that the rain didn t stop all day long At this little game François GONON outcame to be the best and won the French champion title ahead of Vincent COUPAT and Théo wonderful bronze medalist On the W21 elite race Isia won the silver medal just behind Léa VERCELLOTTI Céline DODIN took the bronze medal of this championship The good performances of Lucas 4th Perrine 8th and OBT 8th should also be notified Credit photo Tout Azimut Douai CFC 2014 Sunday 11th May National Champ of Clubs Relay Forêt de Mormal Locquignol Welcome back on the finish arena for the last be not least race of the week end It s 5 30am in Locquignol and the sun is slowly rising on the skyline This is a short moment of calm before a long long day During the last days and nights a malediction stoke the elite teams first with HVO whose runner Bastien MENGIN fall down and get injured during the first race of the week end sprint even before the mixed relay GO78 NOSE Oreint Apes OTB and many others didn t avoid the injuries Only CSMRillieux la Pape arrived on Sunday without losing any runner and seemed on a perfect position to beat OTB winner of the last two years Saturday night has been terrible for O Team Besançon who loosed two of its major runners Capucine VERCELLOTTI and Johann TINCHANT This is finally a totally unexpected team who

a queue trying to stay in contact with the guy in front of me and the map in the same time and that wasn t easy at all Some lamp and stomach problems made me loose the group and by then I lost lot of time Anyway it was now time to read the map on my own and that was much funnier I came 8min behind Olivier had a good race and kept the contact almost all race coming 2min behind the lead Clement had more problems and came 15min behind Lucas ran 5th leg by day and had an average race with heavy legs from EOC and some beginners mistake still Denseln finished on a nice 2nd place Kolmardsmedeln was another nice competition for Olivier and I in Elite 3 Terrain was nice and we made some mistakes in the tricky end in the green and rocky part but it was again very nice to enjoy swedish terrains Silva League Long Distance was on Sunday in Finspang not far from Skärblacka where we stay 16km were planned on a very wild and beautiful terrains Very few paths nice forest that was just perfect long distance on an awesome terrain I was even disappointed to come at the finish and that s not so often on a long distance 1h48 for me 1h42 for Olivier and 1h23 for Gustav impressive in the beginning of the season Clement mispunched in Elite 2 and Lucas Won easily Öpen 8 or 9 maybe 4th race in 4 days was Kolmardskavlen 5 legs relay in the same arena than the Saturday middle distance Once again nice terrain good organisation good level Lucas ran 2nd leg for Denseln 1 starting and finishing in the lead and winning the leg the team finished 4th good

level of international competition Moreover there was an OBT in good shape finishing 9th the first day he was 2nd after the first 9 controls a frame worthy performance I too started well my race reached the first controls technically pretty much in control of the situation and at a good speed and also finished all right despite slowing down a bit in the hardest sections of the course Unfortunately I got really unfocused in the middle of the race and made a 6 minute mistake stopped navigating lost contact with the map and ran just next to the controls 10 and 11 only to realize it a little too late Nevertheless at least when you re not moving that fast in the forest the organizers can photograph you successfully Here s a picture of me on the Facebook page of the Lipica Open After the race we returned to Italy visited the nicest areas of Trieste a bit and then spent most of the rest of the afternoon and evening eating ice cream antipasti crepes pizza then cake and many other things I forgot to add at the end everybody was really full and I was happy to have gone back home for the weekend As both an American and an Italian I absolutely love eating that s for sure The second day we had on tap a Long Course not far from Lipica The terrain was the typical karst terrain with many rocky hillsides stony ground pretty much everywhere large depressions and small animal or lumberjack trails in the thicker areas of the forest See the map below One can take a look at the route choices of the Norwegian team here http www tulospalvelu fi gps 20140309Stage2M guf where the study of the GPS tracks of Olav
