after qualification performance and the plan in the final was to go full speed from the start to get in the good rhythm from the beginning So I started aggressively but too much with a 50 seconds compass mistake on the first control It seems that the start point was maybe at the wrong place that can explain the awful start for all the women in the A final After that mistake the controls were OK with small hesitations and one or two 15 seconds mistakes on the controls after spectator controls I ended the race on the beach in the antic ruins in 33 10 This time means a 26th place and my first world cup points Amelie finished 12th Fredo 14th and Philippe 16th This race was dominated by Swiss and Sweden which took the 12 places available on the little podiums with a victory for Tove Alexandersson SWE and Daniel Hubmann SUI The rest of the French team ran the B final and a 4th place for Celine 8th for Lea and 11th for Vincent Lucas didn t run Next day the Sprint Mixed Relay Teams were France 1 Isia Lucas Fredo Amélie France 2 Céline Philippe Vincent Léa We discovered the new punching system Emit Touch Free already used on some ski orienteering races This consists in a cell at the wrist which blinks when entering the magnetic field of the unit This allows going through the control at 60 km h and 75 cms far from the unit This difference in punching changes totally the way of running as anticipation is more important because there are no stops anymore at the control points It changes the routechoices too as the best is now often to have the way out the control in the same direction

On Saturday morning the middle distance was won by the two orienteering s superstars Simone Niggli in the women class and Thierry Gueorgiou in the men class They both managed to deal with the demanding course with two different parts one very technical with boulders and rock slabs and the other more continental with slopes and vegetation limits Isia and Perrine both ran very well with a 7th and 17th place close from the top runners Well done girls Olivier 30th and Theo 59th ran in the very dense men Superelite class and took some good world ranking points Simon 34th in men elite made some mistakes at the end of the race but show us that he was in good shape Lucas chose to rest before the world cup in Turkey I was personally registered in men 21B in order to get back smoothly to the competition In the afternoon the WRE sprint at Aguiar de Beira was again a success for our girls with the 7th and 15th places of Isia and Perrine In the men s class Theo Olivier and Simon were a little bit too tired to perform but they pushed hard and took it as a nice sprint training On Sunday the long distance was held in an awesome terrain near Aguiar de Beira Definitively a race to remember Olivier and Theo did well on the 14 4 kms long race Two strong technical races they missed some energy to be higher in the ranking but were satisfied with their 31st and 34th places Lucas Isia and Perrine chose to rest for this last competition I did my M21B long distance in less than 38min so it was quite nice middle distance training for me and I felt my knee strong and sure In conclusion

spend one week in Portugal the 1st four days in Mira on the coast with very detailed sand dune terrains We arrived on Monday afternoon and started the camp with a 9k multi technique training in Dunas da Tocha to get used to the terrain Barely finished with my race only 85minutes later no I wasn t that good we went to Dunas de Mira and 7k of night training for the bravest of us The orienteering in Mira is not that difficult in itself but the runnability is extremely good and once you are running at high speed you have to be very concentrated because it is easy to make mistakes then The next morning a 9 6 km long one man relay was scheduled on a very fast terrain Lucas finished the course in 43 minutes with an average pace of 4 30 per kilometer In the afternoon we ran a slow speed long distance in Gafanhas Once again the challenge was not to find the controls but rather to keep the concentration the whole way not to get lost on the long legs sometimes more than 1 5km long On today s program we had a middle

the first qualification race for the elite team It comes very early this year even if it was supposed to be the previous WE but has been reported because the recent snow falls and it was a challenge for everyone to be in an Olympic shape at this tricky period where the winter training period is not yet totally finished and the season start no reached yet Let s meet on the new map of Salignac typical terrain of the area hilly lots of gully and micro reliefs almost without any trees Despite this nice description the ground was wet and not very stable sticky or slippery So the condition where not very good and nobody got very good feeling about his speed and big gap appears quickly in the ranking Final times appear quite big for a middle distance About the results Philippe Adamski won the middle in a time of 43min just before Lucas 46min and Loic Capbern The others JOGgers Théo and OBT finished at the 5th and 6th rank respectively in a time of 50 and 51 min In the woman race Emilie Kemp 43min took the lead in front of Céline Dodin 46min and Emilie
