    Richar Anacréon Museum of Modern Art Collections Collections Collections Richard ANACREON book seller and collector Richard Anacréon was born in Granville in 1907 and died here in 1992 but in the 1980 s he gifted his birthplace some 280 art pieces and 550 antiquarian books that together form an unrivalled collection of art from the first half of the 20th century The collection contains some of the very greatest names in visual art including André Derain Kees Van Dongen Maurice de Vlaminck Maurice Utrillo Marie Laurencin and Paul Signac as well as writers such as Paul Valéry Guillaume Apollinaire Colette and Jean Cocteau Bibliophily collection The exhibition was reorganised in 2010 to highlight more effectively the museum s collection of paintings and sculptures Both chronological and thematic the exhibition presents in nine sections the collection brought together by Richard Anacréon Ranging from the dawn of the 20th century to the 1950 s it demonstrates the fine taste of this knowledgeable collector who brought together works by the finest artists of his time Maximilien Luce André Derain Maurice de Vlaminck Kees Van Dongen to name the outstanding figures as well as works less well known artists such as Charles Dufresne Elisée
